Circadian Rhythm of Heart Rate and Heart Rate Variability in Pregnancy
This project explores how pregnancy shapes the circadian rhythms of heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV), key biomarkers of autonomic nervous system function. Using wearable smartwatch PPG data collected in free-living conditions, we apply machine learning pipelines and Cosinor analysis to track longitudinal changes across 16 weeks of pregnancy. The results reveal consistent circadian patterns, including declining HRV, rising HR rhythm-adjusted mean, and elevated nighttime stress linked to sleep disturbances and fatigue. These findings provide critical insights into maternal physiology and highlight potential biomarkers for monitoring pregnancy health and complications.
