IFH Club Session 3 Discusses Generative AI Use and Mental Health Trends

February 23, 2026

The third IFH Club session examined recent research on the relationship between generative AI use and mental health. The featured discussion focused on a large nationwide U.S. survey analyzing whether the frequency and type of generative AI use are associated with depressive symptoms among adults. Participants reflected on the study’s findings, including patterns suggesting that more frequent AI use, particularly for personal purposes, may be linked with modestly higher depression scores. The session also emphasized the limits of cross-sectional analysis and the need for future longitudinal and experimental work. In addition to the paper discussion, attendees heard about ongoing research on adolescent and emerging-adult AI use and its connections to social and psychological well-being.
